1st Census in India- 1872 by Lord Mayo.

1st official Census of 1881 by Lord Rippon and after that every 10 year. Census 2011 was released on 31st March 2011 by Union Home Secretary. Census 2011 was 15th census of India and 7th after Independence.

Motto: “Our Census, Our Future” Regitrar General: C Chandramouli. Populaton- 1.21 billion.

Decadal Growth – 17.64 (2001-2011, 181 Million Population increase).

China-19.4% of World’s Population. India-17.5% of World’s Population.

Population of India is more than combined population of USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh.

UP-Most populous state. UP’s Population is next to China, India, USA, Indonesia and Brazil.

CENSUS OF HIMACHAL PRADESH

POPULATION OF HP Total population of Himachal Pradesh as per 2011 census is 6,864,602 of which male and female are 3,481,873 and 3,382,729 respectively. ( acc to 2001 census, HP population was 6077990, it means there is an increase of 7,86,702 people from 2001-2011 ).

-Population-68,64,602 , which is 0.57 of india’s population ( in 2001, it was 0.59)

-population wise , HP ranked 21st among the 29 states of India but it ranked 22nd among states and UTs of India. ( Delhi is only UT to have more population than HP).

-Area-55,673 sq.km. ( 1.7 % of total area of India )

-Area wise , HP ranked 18th in India.

2001-2011 decadal growth rate– 12.94 % ( 4.60 % less than the previous decade as 1991- 2001 decadal growth rate was 17.54 %)
